With its heady, open tone and deluxe Brooklyn series handcrafted construction, the Gretsch Brooklyn Micro Kit captures classic Gretsch tone in a fun-to-play, easy-traveling size. Gretsch players have been requesting a bop-sized Brooklyn kit for years, and Live Music Malaysia is happy to report that the Micro Kit delivers — visually, tonally, and beyond. The Brooklyn Micro Kit honors Gretsch’s New York heritage and time-honored tone with its bop sizes and vintage inspiration. The ’50s-era 302 double-flanged hoops on 30-degree bearing edges give these toms a wide-open, punchy response at high and low tunings. The kick is deceptively musical given its size, with a warm, wooly soft edge that suits it perfectly to club gigs and jazz sets. The snare is fast to respond and get out of the way, boasting dimensionality and sensitivity as only a Brooklyn wood snare can. Shells are built from six plies of North American maple and poplar for a surprisingly big voice that’s sure to turn heads every time you show out. A full complement of Gretsch-branded Remo Permatone heads gives the Brooklyn Micro Kit great tone straight out of the gate.
